Challenge & Solution
This is a slightly different project from the usual for us. Through a mutual client, a large building material company reached out to us asking if we would capture one of their recent projects in Burlington, ON. The client is looking for a set of images to showcase their building material product. In this case, it is the limestones and bricks used on this commercial building, The Pearle Hotel & Spa.
One of the challenges for this project was the lack of instruction in the early stage of the project. It is very important to ask the right questions to find out exactly what the client is looking for.
After a series of emails and questionnaires, we had a great understanding of the client’s expectations. We then started the pre production planning, such as securing the location & staff, notifying the parties involved (especially clearance with hotel security), setting a shoot date and a backup rain day, etc.
In order to showcase the different characteristics of the material, we focus on lights and shadow. The direct sunlight was ideal because it provides depth and dimensions to the material, as well as hard shadow lines which create a dramatic look in our images.
